I’d like to talk to you about something exciting, something that has been in the pipeline for some time and something which is finally becoming a reality.
From the moment I found out about the world of “online” networks, I was hooked. VATSIM was the very first online network that I used, followed by a brief stint on IVAO before returning to VATSIM. I’d consider myself experienced when it comes to how these online networks operate both from an end users point of view and from an infrastructure point of view.
I joined the online network scene circa 2006. At the time it was revolutionary. It was a place that allowed me to take my virtual flying to a whole new level of immersion and that was without even touching the Air Traffic Control side of things.
Moving into 2018, with the huge ongoing success of projectFLY and the fortunate position I am in within the community, I had been planning to start the development of my own network.
Why? It’s simple. Everything is so dated. VATSIM/IVAO are still running the same archaic infrastructure that they were when I first joined over 10 years ago. It seems although we are promised lots, what is delivered is next to nothing. I find myself nowadays spending more time dealing with idiots/trolls who use the online networks as a simple but effective way of “getting to me” than I do using the online networks for their purpose.
Creating your own network is no easy feat and there is no chance of me being able to develop an entire network by myself, so since the start of the new year I’ve been traveling back and forth between the UK and New York taking part in various meetings. It’s been life changing to say the least - the result being what you are reading now.
I am more than excited to announce that I am taking over the Positive Control Network (POSCON) project.
So… what is POSCON? POSCON, or Positive Control Network is the next generation flight simulation network. Designed from the ground up to create the ultimate modern day virtual flying/controlling network, POSCON takes a selection of the best people that the industry has to offer, bringing them all in to one place to create, without exception, the best online network.
If you want to learn more about POSCON and its features or get involved, you can visit the POSCON website for more information: https://poscon.net
Over the coming weeks/months I’ll be publishing information regarding how we plan to integrate all our services into one (projectFLY, POSCON, Simstall), whilst keeping them separate.
If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to ask them below or you can send me an email directly to hello[at]mettarsim.com.
2018/2019 is, for me at least, going to be incredibly exciting with so many cool things happening. I hope you share the same enthusiasm going forward and more importantly I want you all to be a part of this.
Welcome to the future of Flight Simulation.
