Welcome to the weekly Mettar Simulations development blog. The idea behind this is to improve what we currently suck at; COMMUNICATION!
Each week, on a Monday, the entire Mettar team have a meeting to discuss what we did the previous week, what we're doing for the proceeding week and have a general chat about life & all the great things in the world.
After the meeting, everything is condensed down into bulleted points which will then be relayed back to you in the form of weekly development updates, published on a Thursday. Sound good? Good.
So, without further adeiu, welcome to dev update #1
To get the ball rolling, we're excited to announce that we now have a 10 strong team. Between us, we're able to utilise between 400 - 500 hours of development time per week, which is huge compared to maybe 10 or 20 hours per week in the past. What does this mean for you? You'll see updates regularly and they'll have significant substance. We aim to push out an update to projectFLY once per week (on a Wednesday), which will update seamlessly through the app. Our other projects will have a published update timeline in due course.
We've released Open Beta 8 this week, you can find all of the changes here: https://app.projectfly.co.uk/app/#/community/topic/896-v3-open-beta-changelog
We realise that one of our biggest weaknesses is communication (although, we continue to grow by about 10% each month - thank you!). Previously, we were such a small team with such a limited amount of available time, we'd always prioritise development over communication. Time is no longer an issue, so we're going to be pushing the communication front hard. You can expect to see a greater social media presence and we're working on implementing community based events - group flights, anyone?
Whist on the topic of communication, we're hugely behind on support tickets. We've got 2 of the team dedicated to clearing this backlog in a timely manner. Once this has been completed, you can expect responses in a timely fashion - no more waiting literally weeks (or sometimes months) for a solution. We can only apologise for those who have been in the system for some time and are still waiting for a solution - we will get to you.
Mac/Linux versions of the app. Yes, I know, we've been promising it for ages. The issue isn't anything more than this; In order for the app to work without any security issues flagging up (Anti Virus etc.) plus a bunch of other important features, we need to implement something called a "Code Signing Certificate" into the app. We purchased this from a company called DigiCert about 5 weeks ago, but due to their massively drawn out and tedious way of trying to verify that we are who we say we are, there is a huge delay on getting the certificate to us. Once we have it (they keep promising it'll be "soon"), we can add it to the apps and then release the versions you've been waiting for.
Dispatcher. Yet another thing we've been promising. It's at the top of our list. We're working with the new design team to make the dispatcher the best it can be and in a timely fashion too. We've halted all development on any further features until the dispatcher has been completed and is released. Keep an eye out on the weekly updates to see progress reports regarding it.
Radar is now on steroids. Seriously. Try it. Matthew & Luke have been working flat out over the last few weeks refactoring the back end systems that power the radar and now have it running super efficiently. The network data (VATSIM/IVAO/PilotEdge) is currently still disabled, but we'll have that up and running for next week.
projectFLY is currently undergoing a major rebrand, this will be phased in over the coming weeks/months.
At this time, although development has begun, we're keeping anything Simstall related close to home until we're all in agreement that we've got enough to share.
The A380 continues to be a part time development whilst we focus on projectFLY & Simstall. Keep an eye on future dev updates for any changes regarding this.
That concludes dev update #1 - If you have any questions/suggestions or would like to get in touch, we're available on all social media, using the comment section below or you can email [email protected]
